- About Me:
- Gavin Christopher was born in Chicago where he started outplaying music at a very early age. Having been schooled by the likes of Oscar Brown Jr., Donny Hathaway and later on Curtis Mayfield, he honed his writing and singing skills and set out on his musical journey. He later hooked up with Chaka Khan in a band called "lyfe." Chaka then left and joined a band called "Rufus." At that point, Gavin was is another band called "High Voltage" with Bobby Watson, Tony Maiden and Lalomie Washburn, who later joined Rufus with Chaka. And one song Gavin had written, "Once You Get Started" was recorded by Rufus, which instantly became on of their biggest hits.
Gavin decided it was time to leave Chicago and move to Los Angeles, where he was signed to his first deal with Island Records. He later moved back to Chicago to record and work with Curtis Mayfield on the Curtom / RSO Label. Then Gavin got a call from Herbie Hancock to write and sing for his projects. Gavin wrote and sang several songs on several albums with Herbie Hancock and penned the classic "Stars in Your Eyes."
Following a move to New York, Gavin signed with EMI Manhattan, and had his biggest singles to date, "One Step Closer to You" and "You are Who You Love. He also produced various artists, such as "Grandmaster Flash," "Afrika Bambatta" and "Ritchie Family." He was heavily involved in the early Hip-Hop scene, writing such hits as "Girls Love the Way He Spins," "Sign of the Time," "We Gonna Rock America" and "All Night All Right."
Gavin is currently based in Los Angeles but continues to perform Live all over the world. SUMMER 2006 Gavin Joined forces with long time friends and musical soul mates to complete a new album with the Everyday people band - When the album is released the band plan to tour the globe.
