- SoulMusic Sovereign, was born and raised in Compton, California. His passion for music came from being born into a musical family. His grandfather Abraham Butler Jr. owned a nightclub in Compton and performed nightly with his house band Love, Peace, and Happiness. His mother Alesia Butler along with her twin Tiresia Butler became Ikettes for The Ike and Tina Review, and later was an Otissette known as Suga with The Jhonny Otis Band performing countless venues, and televised shows from The Midnight Special to Dick Clark.
It was these young times that SoulMusic Sovereign was introduced to his passion-Music. As a child he got to be around legendary acts such as The Coasters, The Penguins, Lakeside, Brenton Woods, Etta James, Jhonny Otis, Sugie Otis, Ike Turner, Vera Hamilton, Stonye Figuroa, Ron Preyer and The YoungHearts & Brenda Holloway to name a few.
When SoulMusic first started singing in public was after he founded a five man singing group in high school that went by the name of Just-N-Time. His first recording session was done by a producer named Hammi Wave who produced for numberous artists respectfully. In the late Nineties, SoulMusic signed solo under Better Place Records which was ran by Robyn Crawford and Whitney Houston as a subsidiary independant through Sylvia Rhone and Elektra Records. It didn't take off for him but his talent led his experiance to New York where he lived for four years crafting his talent right under the wings of Whitney Houston and Nippy Inc. Within those years he got to record with Whitney Houston, The Legendary Herb Middleton, The Neptunes, lablemates Shanna Wiley, Sunday, T.C., as well as El Debarge, Nokio from Dru Hill, Mike Clemmons the Drummer, and Bahamadia. When that run ended, SoulMusic continued to record back home with LoveLand church in Fontana, CA. with a gospel group named Praize. They would perform at the youth night services there, Sunday services there as well as other churches. The last group that SoulMusic was apart of was a five man group named Reign. Reign went as far as opening up for acts such as Tyrese Gibson, Shanice Wilson, Steve Harvey, and did numberous shows around Los Angeles for radio stations jingles for radio stations, as well as a couple of videos.
His equal love of hip hop comes in the form of a rap group which is comprised of his childhood buddies Dub Owe, March 4th, and Mr. Pleizeman A.K.A BlazeNation Global. Call it...wanting to do something that you can't...they wish they can sing, and he wanted to rap. So he stuck around them to learn...and man did he. He'll be the first to tell you he's not where he wants to be lyrically but IF where he is NOW isn't hot yet...then we're in for a looooong wonderful ride.
Now days SoulMusic is working solo on a project called Tite Ta Death named after the independant label that's working with him on a one album deal, Tite Ta Death Entertainment. It's a wonderful blend of R&B and Hip Hop music. Something for the club, something for the car. Something for the bedroom, something for the household. It's definatly alot of feels for everybody old and young.
Outside of music SoulMusic works with at-risk youth in Watts, Ca. at an afterschool/anti-gang prevention program. His spirit is very in tune with the community and people. He's a black panther at heart with the orthodox G-d given Christlike love for all races.
He's working with Mike Anthony now on his project who is an upcoming artist and an established writer for many signed and un-signed artists. Bishop Lamont, a rapper out of Carson, Ca. who is signed to Dr. Dre's Aftermath label, Kimberly Rose, R&B singer, who is an incredible talent in freestyling entire R&B songs. They always do duets together. Yung Nova, a rapper out of Los Angeles who also runs Tite Ta Death Entertainment. BlazeNation Global of coarse, and numerous local talents that show love and are willing to work with SoulMusic Sovereign.
Take the intro of his cd "Apart of Me" which loops some Barry White-The Love Orchestra 1970's feel, Where he's saying, "Like the sea of the crowd here/I'm over this mic clear/everyone should have some theme music/This is me, Word in the Flesh-Islam, Christ, Jewish/Put the doctrines down and love somebody/This dude do it. All I want to do is music, I mostly live instead/So when I get a chance to drop the things in my head I want yall to be...."
And you hear the backgrounds start singing "Apart of me...apart of me..."
What artist doesn't want their fans to feel like they are apart of them? He relates...just as you will.
